Woman with a Parrot by Gustave Courbet

A woman lies on a white sheet, her hair spread out, while a green parrot perches on her raised hand. Courbet painted it for the Salon of 1866.

He wanted a success, and got one: the nude was more polished than usual for him. The model may have been Joanna Hiffernan, Whistler’s companion.
