Collection/1800s

A wheat field under a dark, stormy sky, three paths leading nowhere, and a flock of black crows. Van Gogh painted it in Auvers-sur-Oise in July 1890, weeks before his death.
It was long believed to be his last painting, and has been read as a premonition. It isn’t his last, though. In his letters he described these fields as expressing both sadness and the healthy, strengthening countryside.
