Water Lilies by Claude Monet

For the last thirty years of his life Monet painted the pond in his garden at Giverny, which he had dug himself and planted with water lilies. He made around 250 paintings of it.

There is no shore and no horizon. You look straight down into the water, where lily pads float among reflections of the sky and the trees. Monet painted these late canvases while his eyesight was failing from cataracts.
