View of Toledo by El Greco

A storm gathers over Toledo, the Spanish city where El Greco lived for almost forty years. It is one of the first pure landscapes in Spanish art, and one of only two El Greco painted.

It isn’t accurate. El Greco moved the cathedral to sit beside the Alcázar palace, so both are visible, and painted the sky an unearthly green and gray.
