The Fortune Teller by Caravaggio

A young Roma woman reads the palm of a well-dressed young man. He gazes into her eyes, and doesn’t notice that she is quietly sliding the ring off his finger.

Caravaggio painted it in the 1590s, with ordinary models in contemporary clothes. It was a new kind of picture: a scene from the street, painted at life size.
