Northeaster by Winslow Homer

A huge wave crashes into the rocks of the Maine coast, spray exploding into the air. Winslow Homer painted it in 1895 near his studio at Prouts Neck.

He reworked it in 1901 and painted out two figures in oilskins, leaving only the sea and the rocks.
