Laocoön by El Greco

In Greek myth, the priest Laocoön warned the Trojans not to bring the wooden horse into the city. The gods sent sea serpents to kill him and his sons.

It is El Greco’s only painting of a story from Greek myth. He set it outside Toledo, the Spanish city where he lived, instead of Troy. Look for the small horse heading toward the city gate.
