Keelmen Heaving in Coals by Moonlight by J. M. W. Turner

Under a full moon on the river Tyne at Newcastle, keelmen load coal from their small boats onto big ships by torchlight. Turner painted it in 1835.

It was commissioned as a pair with a sunny view of Venice: the industrial north of England by night, the city of art by day.
