A Girl with a Watering Can by Pierre-Auguste Renoir

A little girl in a blue dress and lace collar stands on a garden path, holding a small watering can and a handful of flowers. Renoir painted her in 1876 with soft, feathery strokes that blur the flowers and grass around her.

Nobody knows for sure who she was. It is one of the best-loved paintings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
